view from above and behind gokyo

after a not-so-bad day of trekking, we ate some lunch...yummy pasta with veggie sauce, and chilled out for a little bit. the lodge owner told us we should climb up 15 minutes behind the lodge to see the Nga glacier. we took his advice and the result is this video. the view was unbelievable! looking out over gokyo was a stunning view with the glacial lake, but on the other side of the ridge, really looked like something from the moon. you could hear the ice cracking and chunks of frozen debris and rocks would fall into the pools. there was no visible life whatsoever. it was like two completely opposite landscapes and i found myself afraid of the glacier's harshness. i was really happy i could walk back down to the comfort of the gokyo resort lodge! ...until the next day when we had to climb over the pass... i'll post that video soon. originally, i wanted to climb up to gokyo-ri (ri is peak in nepali), but after some discussion with the lodge owner, we decided to try the pass. actually, it went more like, the lodge owner and choesang discussing it and choesang lighting up like a christmas tree with delight when he realized the pass was possible...i felt i should at least give it a try. he was so excited to be up that high and that close. so, again with the lodge owner's help, we had a guy who was working at the lodge and was going down to namche the next day, collect our 2 bags of goods left behind and take them to namche for us. it worked out perfectly as we didn't have to go back to machermo. and that way, choesang could carry all of my other stuff, as well...camera and water, cause i knew i was gonna struggle up that mountain!
